Maman's recipes eased homesickness

When Hami Sharafi left Iran behind to pursue big dreams in the UK, he was excited, but the adventure was also tinged with sandess. Hami was sad to be leaving behind his loving family.

When he had settled down, he began craving the delicious Persian food he’d grown up eating. Though he’d trained as a chef, it had been in international cuisine. As he found his feet in his new kitchen, he called his Maman and over the phone, learned how to cook her lovely Persian food.

It marked the start of a wonderful bonding journey, but simultaneously drove forward a dream he didn’t even know he had. Persian chef and teacher Hami shared his story about his roaring social media success as ‘I got it from my Maman’, and the beautiful journey of learning to cook with his mum for BBC Good Food magazine.
